Sandy Sabo - Team Director and Girls Head Coach
Sandy began coaching gymnastics when her 2 daughter got involved at ages 5 and 7. Sandy has been coaching for nearly 25 years and one of her biggest accomplishments was to have a gymnast have a vault named after her, "The House". Sandy has produced several State, Regional, and National Champions over the years. Sandy loves coaching and helping her gymnasts set and reach their goals. It is also very important to her that they learn "life lessons" that gymnastics teaches. Her daughters have carried gymnastics into their adult careers as Leah earned a full scholarship to NC State and now coaches in Houston, TX and Casey travels the world doing Cirque de Soleil. Sandy is a member of USA gymnastics and is safety certified.
Chad Cleland - Girls Level 7-10 Team Coach
Chad is a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and attended YSU. He is going on his 18th year of coaching competitive gymnastics. A former gymnast himself, Chad competed nine years at Youngstown Gymnastics Center, achieving Class 2 status. Chad has coached gymnasts of levels 4-10, produced state champions at levels 4-9, been a part of regional qualifiers in levels 8 and 9, regional champions in level 8, and a level 9 eastern national qualifier. Chad is a member of USA gymnastics and is safety certified.
Valerie Spano - Girls Level 5/6 Team Coach & Dance Instructor
Valerie was born in Russia and started gymanstics at age 6 and dance at age 2. She has been teaching both gymnastics and dance for several years and is currently a student at YSU majoring in dance management. Valerie is a member of USA gymnastics and is safety and CPR certified.
Stephanie Harker - Girls Level 4 Team Coach
Stephanie has been coaching at YGC for the past 4 years, she graduated from YSU with a degree in communications and lives in Boardman with her husband Tim, son James, and daughter Jackie. Her daughter, Jackie is currently a competitive gymnast at YGC and competes in Level 8. Stephanie is a member of USA gymnastics and is safety certified.
Melissa Sekman - Girls Level 3 & X-Cel Team Coach & Dance Instructor
Melissa started gymnastics when she was 3 years old and went on to be a competitive gymnast, competitive cheerleader as well as a dancer. Melissa was a Level 5 state floor champion in 1995. In 2006 Melissa decided to start coaching gymnastics and cheerleading and is a member of USA Gymnastics and is saftey certified.
Jonathan Imler - Boys Head Coach
Jonathan began training at Youngstown Gymnastics Center at the age of eight and competed on the advanced boys’ team throughout highschool. It was during his senior year of high school that he began coaching a boys’ beginner class and continued to do so off and on as he returned home on college breaks. Jonathan became a member of the Ohio State University Club Gymnastics Team (part of the NationalAssociation of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs) during his freshman year before being accepted into the Knowlton School of Architecture at OSU. After graduating at the University of Michigan for graduate school, Jonathan returned to his hometown to work for an architecture firm in downtown Youngstown and ever since painstakingly tries to convince Ohioans that he is still a Buckeye. In addition to practicing architecture, Jonathan became the boys’ team head coach in 2008 to carry on the traditions of excellence that have been crucial in his own development in and out of the gym. Jonathan is a member of USA Gymnastics and is safety certified.
Danyell Thomas - Preschool and Recreational Program Director
Danyell has been teaching at YGC for the past 13 years and is currently the Preschool and Rec. director. Danyell has coached competitive team, cheernastics, and also the boys. Danyell lives in Canfield with her husband and 3 children, her oldest child is currently a competitive gymanast at YGC and competes in Level 8. Danyell hopes you enjoy your experience here at YGC as much as she has over the years.
Rachel Kelly - Preschool and Rec. Coach
Gaby Rossi - Girls Pre-Team and Cheerleading Coach
Gaby started gymnastics at age 4 and competed at YGC through Level 8, she also qualified to TOPS national testing. Gaby honestly believes that gymnastics is the best of all sports! She still gets to practive her tumbling as a cheerleader for Boardman High School where she currently attends school. She is very excited to be part of the coaching staff at YGC, teaching young gymnasts about the sport and helping them to be great competitors in the future.
Kim Bennett - Instructor
Kim joined the YGC staff in the spring of 2012. While new to coaching gymnastics she has 12 years of experience coaching other sports and looks forward to transferring those skills to the world of gymnastics. Kim graduated from YSU and is currentl a creative director at 1080 Media.
